Get out, get healthy and get growing with top tips for spring, summer and autumn gardening.

With easy to follow guides on how to grow flowers, plants, herbs and vegetables, GroMór provides a refreshing approach to introducing new people to gardening, whether it be on their windowsill, their balcony or in their garden.

Starting in mid April, a series of 40 demonstrations will be taking place throughout Retail Excellence Ireland member centres around the country over the summer months, with 10 demonstrations in four regions involving the expert 2016 GroMór Ambassadors – Jane McCorkell, Fiann O Nuallain, Ciaran Burke and Kevin Dennis. The ambassadors will travel the country each week to demonstrate on various topics, which are pertinent to the time, and will prove how growing is not only fun and easy, but a healthy hobby for the body and soul too.

All demonstrations are free and open to all ages. This year’s campaign highlights the benefits of growing plants, flowers and foods and the demonstrations will focus on four key areas:

Get Ready for Spring: It’s time for a spring tidy-up! Get your fruit garden ready for the season ahead and also learn how to plant trees, hedges and shrubs, along with helpful lawn treatment tips and how to control moss in lawns and driveways.

Summer Colour: Flower gardens can turn any ordinary area into a colourful showcase or create a border that pops. Learn how to spruce up your garden with some summer bedding, perennials, containers and pots.

Little Growers & Wildlife: Invite nature into your garden with some simple projects for little growers. The garden is not only ideal for children to get exercise, an education and healthy eating habits, but it is also the perfect place to grow family memories.

Autumn Gardening: With the days getting shorter and colder our ambassadors provide tips on planting your spring flowering bulbs to ensure you have a bright, beautiful garden for spring 2017, advice on moving and replanting trees, adding colour to a greying garden, deadheading and protecting more tender plants from frost.

The initiative is running across 65 Retail Excellence Ireland Garden Centres with input from 17 Nursery Growers, and the aim is to make gardening accessible to everyone by offering practical advice on growing, highlighting the many benefits of gardening as a pastime and encouraging novices to dig out their wellies and discover their green fingers.

Fergal Doyle, Chairperson of the Retail Excellence Ireland Garden Group, said: “With the days getting longer and spring finally here, now is the perfect time to get outside and try your hand at growing. Our newly launched website outlines easy tips on how to get started whether you have a windowsill, balcony or a garden!  Anyone looking for a little extra help can attend any of our 40 demonstrations taking place nationwide over the next few months.”

Carol Marks of Bord Bia notes that: “Gardening can be easy and fun while being good for the body and soul. It’s not hard on the pocket, great for wildlife and the environment and anyone can get involved”.
